Now here's a prescient title. There's been speculation for the last couple of years about who'd ride Nelly's coattails out of St. Louis and on to solo stardom, but none of his fellow St. Lunatics have had the personality to pull it off, and one terrific single was all Toya could manage. So the latest lottery ticket winner who'll try to maintain the Midwest swing is Chingy, who's a curious combination of his Band-Aid-wearing mentor and his primary influence, Ludacris. On the plus side, he has the latter's drawl and good-natured thuggishness down pat, and the former's knack
for an oddly spelled catchphrase. Those qualities converge on a few decent singles, including "Right Thurr," which makes a
PG-13 rated booty inspection while endearingly noting that the lady in question "remind me of Pocahontas," and the slow-motion
bounce of "Sample Dat A--," with help from Lunatic Murphy Lee. What Chingy lacks is Nelly's ruthless ambition and Luda's sense
of humor; the hooks won't stick once you leave the club, and neither will the punchlines.
