Chingy bringing Power Ballin' In October

07/9/04
HOLLYWOOD — Still all about the jackpot, Chingy is naming his new album after the multi-state lottery Powerball.

The "Right Thurr" rapper originally planned to call his Jackpot follow-up The Soul of St. Louis, but he recently changed it to Power Ballin'. Chingy's still showing the love for his home town, however, as most of the album was recorded in his St. Louis studio with Jackpot producers the Trak Starz.

Power Ballin' is due in October, with the first single rolling out at the end of July. Chingy's eyeing "Baller Baby" as that tune, although his spokesperson said it was not confirmed.

"It's a real party track," Chingy said of the tune. "It's just about me being a baller and power ballin', and cats out there hatin' on me when they can do the same thing."

Along with recording his second album, Chingy has been in the studio with his group, the Get It Boyz, and is shopping that album to labels. Titled Hood Starz, the record features Chingy rapping alongside St. Louis friends such as Rich Money, DJ Sno and Boozie.

"Expect us to be coming very hardcore," Chingy said. "It's gonna be really kinda street." Chingy is also putting together his first mixtape, which will debut some of his Power Ballin' material.

Chingy review for Summer Jam

06/14/04
CHINGY / OVERALL SCORE: 7

Stage Performance - 8: Chingy's set was hands down the night's most boring, but the boy does have energy. No one can take that away from him.

Audience Response - 5: While women stood up rhyming along to every line, their male companions sat down for the entire set.

Song Selection - 9: Chingy did all his 106 & Park and TRL favorites to the delight of the women in attendance.

Perks - 6: A Snoop appearance wouldn't have hurt for "Holiday Inn." Nevertheless, Chingy and his hype man rocked it on their own for the whole set.
